Supportive parents and carers are a vital element of a student’s success. We appreciate the importance of a supportive family network working in conjunction with teachers and staff alongside students. We are keen to build strong links with the family of students who study with us.
During each academic year we will provide parents with regular updates on their son/daughter’s targets and progress. We will host parents’ evenings for one-to-one updates and events open to all family members to showcase the work that students undertake throughout the academic year. We will also operate an excellent communication system between the college and home to ensure parents are kept up to date with college news, events and updates.
In some cases, it may be appropriate for parents/carers of our students to come and share their knowledge of the working world with our students. We are keen to build links with as many local employers as possible to provide our students with access to as many opportunities as we can. If you work for or run a company that has some knowledge to share, facilities to showcase or is able to provide support in other ways do not hesitate to let us know!
The relationships across the entire UTC Warrington community are characterised by mutual respect and support, and a sense of shared endeavour.
All communications and conversations will be conducted in a professional and constructive manner and students will be encouraged to provide thoughtful and increasingly mature responses in all situations. In this way they will start to model their future professional behaviours.
The behaviour and discipline policy is underpinned by four straightforward and fundamental principles, which all students will be able to understand and embrace. They will understand how these principles translate into adult and professional life. These are:
- mutual respect and shared responsibility for the wellbeing of all
- health and safety and their personal responsibility for the safety of all
- the effectiveness and productivity of the UTC
- the professional reputation of the UTC
All staff at UTC Warrington will model these behaviours for students and provide strong professional role models.
Being a 14-19 college is unique and our specialist STEM curriculum is designed to offer a maturer environment for students. We work closely with parents and carers to aid a smooth transition, including taster sessions and team building activities.
Those students who identify themselves as requiring SEND support are assisted by our Student Support Team. This team is headed by the SENDCo who will liase with parents/carers during the transition period to assess students’ abilities. For more information please view our dedicated SEND page. Students of UTC Warrington are encouraged to adopt a ‘can do’ approach to their learning in order to achieve their full potential, whatever their abilities.
Our finance team will work to assess those students who may be entitled to additional funding or pupil premiums. The Pupil Premium (PP) is additional funding given to the college and is being used to support disadvantaged students and close the attainment gap between them and their peers. UTC Warrington is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of all students and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We strive to ensure that consistent and effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support families, students and staff at school.
Our safeguarding team are trained to deal effectively with child protection and safeguarding issues and all staff are appropriately trained with any concerns are reported to the safeguarding team.
Attendance is monitored closely and concerns will be raised with parents/carers and other agencies if necessary.
